Flower Power - A seasonal guide to florals in event decor!

“Earth laughs in flowers.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Flowers have the ability to liven up any space. They are often the first thing that comes to mind when you visualise a festive atmosphere.

Unfortunately, they are also one of the things that people are really afraid of, when it comes to event decor. Some of the most common misconceptions regarding the usage of fresh flowers are - "They are too expensive", "The more expensive and exotic the flowers the better it will look", "Flowers only last the day of the wedding"and many more.

These are not entirely true, what is important is the consideration of a few factors while choosing your florals.

Because, when chosen intelligently, florals are the only decor element that can add freshness, colour, character, fragrance & aesthetic beauty to your space. And more importantly, they have the power to invoke feelings of joy, love, excitement and even a sense of peace and divinity that remains etched in your memories.

Because, years later, when you look back at those images and videos of your special day the thing you will remember is not going to be the elaborate menu, the number of guests or the expensive venue, but how your space looked and more importantly how it made you feel on that day!

The two most important factors to consider while choosing your wedding flowers are:

  • Design Mindfully: While the most expensive flowers can give wonderful effects you can often save money without compromising on the looks by mixing upscale materials with more every day ones. The same design and look can many times be created in less than half the price by only changing to a more readily available species of the flower.

  • Choose Seasonal : To avoid burning a hole in your pocket it is necessary to choose flowers according to availability. Once you have decided the date and time of your event look for the flowers that are most affordable at this particular moment in time. If so, it’s a good idea to take a look at seasonal bloom times. Different flowers bloom naturally in various periods of the year, which means that certain flowers will be much easier to find (and much more affordable) depending on when you shop for them. BONUS: Choosing seasonal and local flowers also reduces your events' carbon footprint and takes you one step further in making your celebrations more sustainable and eco-friendly!

To make your life easier, we have outlined the seasonal growth times for several popular and local flower varieties available in India to help you choose more efficiently and not miss out on the soul, beauty and warmth of florals in decor. Keep in mind that none of these lists are totally comprehensive. You will also notice that some flower varieties are “in season” during more than one part of the year.
